No rest for the wicked, the traveling continues.... Am back in London for another project in the glittery world of entertainment. This time it's about theatrical film distribution. It is quite fun to see behind the curtains of this business and how Hollywood's magic makes it all the way into the living rooms and movie theaters of the world. Now all that is needed is some decent content ;-) Consultant by day, I am writing the thesis for my Masters in Transformational Psychology at nights. Hotel rooms can be rather helpful for focusing (although it is tough to resist the enticing world of London's Soho right outside my window). My thesis will serve as the foundation for a book I am hoping to write next year, but no promises ;-) Am learning to not overcommit myself, which I think is a good lesson... If you are interested in what I am up to, you can read an abstract of the thesis if you read on...
On Conscious Creativity as New Paradigm Meaning
This thesis will be an attempt at synthesizing a non-prescriptive
morally and traditionally neutral concept of the meaning of life from a
transformational perspective. It will aim to integrate horizontal or translative spirituality, which seeks to
give meaning to the separate self, and vertical or transformative spirituality, which seeks to overcome the separate
ego and enter a state of oneness or void. It will address the existing paradigms
of materialism and spiritualism, each denying respective aspects of this
reality, and it will suggest the concept of “conscious creativity” as an
alternative to and integration of either orientation.
The work will draw from a variety of sources, and endeavors to
synthesize several models of transformation, reality and consciousness, and the
role each assumes for the individual. One of the structures considered is Arthur
Young’s theory of process. Building on the assumption that consciousness rather
than matter constitutes the essential principle of the cosmos, this thesis will
seek to integrate new paradigms evolving in Quantum Physics surrounding the
concept of a self-reflexive universe and the observer principle, with concepts
such as Jung’s “New Myth for Man”; integrating also Jung’s idea about the
process of individuation as moving from projection to relationship, as well as
the idea of integrating the shadow and the transformative function of the arts
on a path toward wholeness.
A model for a process of transformation based on a synthesis
of tools from perennial philosophies is then proposed using a map of reality
which utilizes the concept of a seven or eightfold structure – the goal of this
being to suggest a practical applicability of the concepts presented in this
thesis in hope of creating the impetus toward conscious participation in this
cosmos, and toward a new paradigm which transcends the apparent paradox of the separation
of “I” from the “Other”. |
